Binaural Stethoscope

This stethoscope, although not owned by Seaborn, is an example of a similar incomplete Seaborn-owned piece in the collection. A staple of any practicing physician, the basic binaural stethoscope has changed very little since its introduction in the mid-nineteenth century.

Hypodermic Syringe

This syringe was donated with the tag “Dr. E. Seaborn.” In addition to the syringe and needle on display, the metal case holds an additional three hypodermic needles.

This syringe was donated with the tag “Dr. E. Seaborn.” Given its size, it was probably used for veterinary purposes.

Dr. Seaborn’s Prescription Pad

  c.1940s

Similar to the stethoscope, the doctor’s prescription pad is an iconic symbol of the practicing physician.

There are a total of eight objects most likely owned and used by Seaborn in the Medical Artifact Collection here at Western, including surgical instruments and research materials used during his study of Onchronosis, a rare condition caused an accumulation of acid in connective tissues.
